Portland: Target’s Portland presence includes stores in prominent retail hubs such as Galleria at 939 SW Morrison St. and Powell at 3031 SE Powell Blvd. Although some stores will be shuttered, 15 locations remain open at 4030 NE Halsey St. in Hollywood, employing over 2,500 people who continue to serve the community.
Despite the closures, more than 150 Target stores will remain open across these regions, ensuring that customers still have ample access to Target’s products and services.
Ongoing Security Measures and Collaborative Efforts
Target is not stepping back from the fight against retail crime. The company continues to deploy a comprehensive suite of security initiatives designed to protect its stores, employees, and customers. These measures include the use of advanced theft deterrent technology—such as electronic article surveillance systems and smart inventory tracking—and the strategic placement of security personnel throughout stores to deter criminal activity.
Moreover, Target collaborates closely with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations division, working hand-in-hand to address the broader network of organized retail crime at a federal level. One practical step involves securing containers with high-value products to limit opportunities for theft.
The Need for a Unified, Community-Based Response
In its official statement, Target emphasized that combating retail theft and organized crime cannot be the responsibility of retailers alone. The company called for a coordinated response involving merchants, law enforcement agencies, and community organizations. Only through a shared commitment to vigilance, resource allocation, and information sharing can these pervasive issues be effectively managed.
Target reiterated its pledge to invest in store security and employee training while advocating for stronger policies and partnerships that support crime prevention. The company acknowledged that protecting retail environments is essential not only for economic reasons but also to foster safe, welcoming spaces where customers and employees feel secure.
