🔪 Instructions
1. Preheat Your Oven
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) so it’s ready when your dough is.
2. Cream the Butter and Sugars
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and creamy.
3. Add Eggs and Vanilla
Beat in the eggs one at a time. Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
4. Dissolve the Baking Soda
In a small cup, dissolve the baking soda in the hot water. Add this to the dough along with the salt and mix well.
5. Mix in the Dry Ingredients
Gradually stir in the flour until a dough forms. Then fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.
6. Scoop and Bake
Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto an ungreased baking sheet. For extra-thick cookies, use a larger scoop and leave plenty of space between each one.
Bake for 9–11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers still look slightly soft.
7. Cool and Enjoy
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Then grab a glass of milk and enjoy!

Don’t overbake—cookies continue to cook slightly after coming out of the oven.
-
Swap walnuts for pecans or leave them out for a nut-free version.
