For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping (Optional):
• 2 Tbsp.Of granulated sugar
• 1 Tsp.Of ground cinnamon
INSTRUCTIONS:
1st Step
To begin, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Grease and flour a square baking pan measuring 9×9 inches, or line it with parchment paper to make removal from the pan easier.
2nd Step
Mix the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, powdered cinnamon, and ground nutmeg (if using) together in a basin that is about medium in size using a whisk. Put this dry mixture to the side for now.
3rd Step
To make a light and fluffy mixture, combine the butter that has been softened and the granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl and cream together until the mixture is light and fluffy, it will take roughly two to three minutes to complete. A single egg at a time should be beaten into the mixture, and then the pure vanilla essence should be added. Keep on stirring until all of the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
4th Step
While stirring constantly, gradually add the unsweetened applesauce to the wet mixture, and continue to whisk until everything is well incorporated. While stirring constantly, gradually add the dry ingredient combination to the wet ingredient mixture. Stir until everything is just blended. If you want a soft cake, be cautious not to overmix the batter.
5th Step
After peeling, coring, and chopping the apples, carefully fold them into the batter so that they are uniformly distributed throughout the mixture. After that, pour the batter into the baking dish that has been prepared and smooth it out evenly.
6th Step
For the topping, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon powder together in a small basin. The cake batter should be covered with a uniform layer of this mixture.
7th Step
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in an oven that has been preheated, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean or with only a few wet crumbs attached. It is important to keep a close check on the baking times since they might vary.
8th Step
After allowing the Apple Cinnamon Cake to cool for around 10 to 15 minutes in the prepared pan, flip it out onto a wire rack to finish cooling fully. When it is completely cooled, cut it into squares. You are now prepared to savor the delicious combination of tart apples and comforting cinnamon in each and every slice of the homemade apple cinnamon cake you have prepared.
