Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

Beat 2 cups sugar and 1 cup melted butter until fluffy.

Combine dry ingredients: In another bowl, mix 3 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Gradually add to butter mixture, alternating with 1 cup buttermilk.

Grease and flour a 10-inch Bundt pan. Pour in batter. Bake for 55-70 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then carefully turn it out onto a wire rack.

In a saucepan, combine 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup cubed butter, and 1/4 cup water. Cook until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves.

Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 teaspoon vanilla.

Poke holes in the warm cake and pour 1/4 cup of the sauce over it.

Let it absorb, then pour the remaining sauce over the cake.
