Buttermilk Pie

 

Ingredients:

1 3/4 cups sugar.

1 stick unsalted butter (1/2 cup), at room temperature.

3 eggs.

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract.

Pinch of salt.

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour.

1 tablespoon buttermilk.

1 9-inch pie shell, unbaked.

Preparation:

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until well blended.

Step 2

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition until the mixture is smooth.

Step 3

Stir in the vanilla extract, salt, and flour until fully incorporated.

Step 4

Blend in the buttermilk until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Step 5

Place the unbaked pie shell on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil to catch any spills.

Step 6

Pour the buttermilk mixture into the pie shell, filling it to the top. Any remaining mixture can be poured into an ungreased custard cup.

Step 7

Bake the pie at 300°F (150°C) for about 1 hour and 10 minutes, or until set.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and allow it to cool almost completely before serving.

Step 9

Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator.
