-
1 jar dried beef slices, well rinsed and chopped
-
4 tablespoons butter
-
4 tablespoons flour
-
Pinch of cayenne pepper
-
2 cups milk
-
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
-
Toasted bread, for serving
Instructions
-
Rinse the dried beef slices thoroughly to remove excess salt, then pat dry with paper towels.
-
Chop the beef into small, bite-sized pieces and set aside.
-
Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
-
Stir in the flour and cayenne pepper, whisking continuously until the mixture is smooth and cooked through—about 45 seconds.
-
Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
-
Once the milk is fully incorporated, add the chopped dried beef.
-
Cook for several minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
-
Taste and adjust seasoning with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper if needed.
-
Serve immediately over dry toasted bread. Enjoy!
