Get Ready:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan. -
Cream Butter and Sugar:
In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 to 4 minutes. -
Add Eggs and Vanilla:
Incorporate eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in the vanilla extract. -
Combine Dry Ingredients:
In another bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt together. -
Mix Wet and Dry:
Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture in three parts, alternating with the milk. Begin and finish with the flour mixture. Mix gently until smooth—avoid overmixing. -
Bake:
Pour batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the surface. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. -
Make the Glaze:
While the cake is baking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth. Add almond extract if using. -
Glaze the Cake:
As soon as the cake comes out of the oven, poke holes all over the top with a skewer or fork. Pour the glaze evenly over the warm cake, letting it soak in. -
Cool and Enjoy:
Let the cake cool slightly before slicing. The glaze will form a sweet, delicate crust that’s simply irresistible.
