Instructions
1. Preheat the oven
Heat your oven to 350°F. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray it lightly with nonstick cooking spray.
2. Cook the beef mixture
In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the ground beef and diced onion until the meat is browned and cooked through. Season with salt and pepper. Drain away any excess grease.
3. Roll out the dough
On a lightly floured work surface, roll the French bread dough into a rectangle about 12×18 inches.
4. Add the sauces
Spread the ketchup and mustard evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
5. Add the fillings
Distribute the cooked ground beef across the dough. Sprinkle the crispy bacon and chopped pickles over the top.
6. Add the cheese
Lay the American cheese slices evenly over the filling layer.
7. Roll it up
Starting from a long edge, roll the dough into a log, keeping it tight as you go. Pinch the seam to seal it, then place the roll seam-side down on the baking sheet.
8. Brush and bake
Brush the top with the beaten egg and sprinkle on the sesame seeds. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the loaf is golden brown.
9. Cool and serve
Let the bread rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with Thousand Island dressing for dipping.
