How to Keep Strawberries Fresh for Days

I still remember the day I brought home a bright red carton of strawberries, eager to savor their juicy sweetness all week. But by the very next morning, my excitement had turned into frustration.

Several berries had already gone soft, and a couple were sprouting fuzzy mold patches. Watching such a delicious treat go bad so quickly felt like tossing money—and joy—straight into the trash.

Determined to avoid the same disappointment again, I started researching ways to keep strawberries fresh for longer. That’s when I discovered a simple method that truly makes a difference.

Inspect and Sort First
Instead of placing the berries straight into the fridge, I began by examining each one carefully. Any berry that felt mushy or showed the slightest mold had to go. One spoiled berry can quickly spread mold to the others, so it’s crucial to remove any bad ones right away.

Here’s where things got interesting. I learned about giving strawberries a quick rinse in a solution of white vinegar and water (1 part vinegar to 3 parts water). Though it might sound odd, this wash helps eliminate mold spores and bacteria without affecting the strawberries’ sweet taste.

I let the berries soak for a few minutes, then rinsed them thoroughly under cold water to wash away any lingering vinegar.

Dry Thoroughly
