n a landmark moment for British numismatic history, The Royal Mint has announced that Princess Anne, the Princess Royal and the beloved sister of King Charles III, will be featured on an official UK coin for the very first time. This historic commemoration coincides with Princess Anne’s upcoming 75th birthday, marking a significant milestone in her lifelong dedication to public service and the monarchy.
On Friday, 18 July, The Royal Mint revealed the special commemorative coin design that pays tribute to the Princess Royal’s remarkable legacy. The announcement was met with widespread acclaim from royal enthusiasts, historians, and members of the public who have long admired Princess Anne’s steadfast commitment to duty and charity — many agreeing this recognition was long overdue.
A Coin to Celebrate a Lifetime of Service and Devotion
The commemorative coin prominently features a beautifully detailed portrait of Princess Anne on the obverse side. The image is drawn from an official royal portrait personally approved by Princess Anne herself, capturing her dignified and graceful presence. She is depicted wearing the exquisite Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara, a Cartier creation renowned for its elegance and symbolism.
Encircling the portrait is an inscription that reads:
“The Princess Royal – Celebrating 75 Years – Duty and Devotion.”
This phrase encapsulates the essence of Princess Anne’s life — a tireless dedication to public service, charitable endeavours, and her unwavering support of His Majesty’s Armed Forces over seven and a half decades.
Additionally, the design incorporates Princess Anne’s official Coat of Arms, lending an extra layer of regal significance and heraldic tradition to the coin.
