
Ingredients:
1 lb. of dried navy beans.
1 large onion, finely chopped.
3 cloves garlic, minced.
¾ cup of molasses.
½ cup of brown sugar.
¼ cup of maple syrup.
¼ cup of ketchup.
1 tbsp. of dry mustard.
1 tsp of smoked paprika.
½ tsp of black pepper.
¼ tsp of cayenne pepper (optional).
4 cups of water
8 oz bacon, cooked and chopped (or smoked ham hocks).
Directions:
Step 1
First, place soaked navy beans in the slow cooker.
Step 2
Then, add chopped onion and minced garlic.
Step 3
After that, in a bowl, mix molasses, brown sugar, maple syrup, ketchup, dry mustard, smoked paprika, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
Step 4
In this step, pour mixture over beans.
Step 5
Next, add cooked bacon or smoked ham hocks.
Step 6
Then, pour water over everything until beans are covered.
Step 7
Finally, cook on low for 6 to 8 hours until beans are tender and sauce thickens.
Variations & Tips:
– For a vegetarian version, omit bacon and use extra smoked paprika or liquid smoke for flavor.
– Adjust sweetness by adding more brown sugar or maple syrup according to taste preference.
